DESCRIPTION:The Spring School provides a comprehensive tutorial-style intr
oductory and intermediate-level treatment of the essential methods for mol
ecular modelling and computational chemistry using modern supercomputers.
The School program consists of:\n\nClassical molecular dynamics\, intro +
 hands-on (1 day)\nElectronic structure theory\, intro + hands-on (1 day)\n
Special topics in computational chemistry (1 day)\n\nEnhanced sampling met
 hods\, intro + hands-on (0.5 day)\nPotential energy surface exploration\,
 intro + hands-on (0.5 day)\n\n\n\nThe school is a must for graduate studen
ts in the field\, providing an overview of “what can be calculated and h
ow it should be done“\, without forgetting the important aspect of netwo
rk building. The intense schedule is also suitable for industrial particip
ants to get a hands-on introduction to molecular modelling. To get an idea
of the depth in which the topics are covered\, take a look at the materia
ls and a blog entry of the 2025 Spring School.\nLearning outcome\nThe lear
ning outcome is to gain an overview of the two main branches of computatio
nal chemistry — classical molecular dynamics and electronic structure ca
lculations — as well as related high-performance computing (HPC) softwar
e packages and other useful tools and skills such as workflow automation.
The workshop serves also as an intensive crash course in computational mod
elling and is useful for students and researchers in physics\, materials s
cience and biosciences as well.\nAnother integral aim of the school is to
serve as a venue for networking and community-building. We have reserved a
mple time for discussions and interaction. We highly encourage you to brin
g a poster to help communicate your work and interests!\nPrerequisites\nWo
rking knowledge and some hands-on experience in some branch of computation
al chemistry will be useful. Basic Linux and Python/Jupyter Notebooks skil
ls are required for the hands-on exercises. During the school\, we have on
ly limited support available for elementary command-line / Python issues.\
nSoftware used in the school\nGROMACS\, ORCA\, CP2K\, Python\, Jupyter Not
 ebooks\, etc.\nParticipation fee\nThe school has a participation fee of 18
 0 EUR (+ VAT). It covers the lectures\, coffees\, lunches\, poster session
snacks\, and the sauna + dinner. A small fee is necessary to cover a part
of the costs and to reduce no-show as only limited seats are available.\n
Please briefly describe your background\, skills\, and expectations upon r
egistration. The registration deadline is at 8th of March 2026\, but as
the school is likely to be fully booked\, we recommend you to reserve your
seat early. A waiting list will be used in case of cancellations.\nWhile
CSC cannot guarantee credits\, as the decision is finally up to your own i
 nstitute\, we’ll supply a certificate which recommends granting 1 ECTS c
redits for each participant.\nLecturers\n\nProf. Antti Karttunen\, Aalto U
 niversity\, Finland\nProf. Matti Javanainen\, University of Tampere\, Finl
 and\nDr. Nanna Myllys\, University of Helsinki\, Finland\nDr. Hector Marti
nez-Seara\, Czech Academy of Sciences\, Czech Republic\nDr. Atte Sillanpä
 ä\, CSC-IT Center for Science\, Finland\nDr. Nino Runeberg\, CSC-IT Cente
 r for Science\, Finland\nDr. Rasmus Kronberg\, CSC-IT Center for Science\,
Finland\n\nFunding\nThe school is organized with support from and as a co
llaboration between CSC\, EuroCC2 and BioExcel3.\nPlease register here: ht
